Access
The drive from Vancouver to Chaunigan Lake Lodge will take you about 9 hours, not including meal or rest stops. The Vancouver to Williams Lake leg takes 6 hours and takes you through some spectacular territory. You’ll pass Hell’s Gate, which is an accidental man made rapids (when they put in the railroad, there was a slide that plugged up the Fraser River and created these rapids – it’s worth stopping there for a quick look but don’t spend too much time as you have a long drive ahead). When you arrive in Williams Lake, stop for a meal and fill up your gas tank. This is the last best place to get gas. Once you’re ready, take Highway 20 West for about an hour (85km) then turn south (left) at Hanceville towards Nemaiah Valley (72km). There are plenty of road signs along the way. When you get to Vedan Lake, turn right. You’ll drive between Vedan Lake and Elkin Lake and proceed up the hill to Chaunigan Lake Lodge (7 km). The Williams Lake to Chaunigan section takes about 3 hours.
